THE JACKED LIST 9/29: THE NFL IS BREAKING PEOPLE AGAIN

Apparently Week 3 looked at the Week 2 injury report and said:

Hold my beer.

Quarterbacks are still dropping.

Star receivers are getting hurt.

Running backs are getting hurt.

And the 49ers finally made it through three games undefeated, only to start adding names to the injury report anyway.

Welcome back to The Jacked List.

JACKED: BAKER MAYFIELD — BUCCANEERS

Injury: Dislocated right thumb

Baker Mayfield is expected to miss at least three weeks after dislocating his right thumb late in Tampa Bay’s 23-16 loss to Minnesota.

The good news is the MRI reportedly showed no additional damage.

The bad news is that a dislocated thumb on a quarterback’s throwing hand is still very much Jacked.

Mayfield had started 57 straight games since joining Tampa Bay.

That streak is over.

Rookie Jalon Daniels is expected to take over.

JACKED: CALEB WILLIAMS — BEARS

Injury: Grade 2 hamstring strain

This one is now more serious than the initial “week-to-week” label.

Williams is expected to miss approximately three to four weeks with a Grade 2 hamstring injury.

Chicago somehow survived without him Monday night.

Actually, “survived” isn’t the right word.

They crushed Philadelphia 27-7 behind third-string quarterback Case Keenum.

Which brings us to…

UNJACKED: CASE KEENUM — BEARS

Case Keenum hadn’t played in an NFL game since 2023.

Then Chicago asked him to start on Monday Night Football against Philadelphia.

He responded with:

247 passing yards.

Two passing touchdowns.

One rushing touchdown.

And a 27-7 win.

That’s pretty damn Unjacked.

JACKED: DE’VON ACHANE — DOLPHINS

Injury: Knee

Miami’s season somehow managed to get worse.

Achane left the Dolphins’ loss to Kansas City early with a knee injury, and initial reporting raised concern that it could be serious.

Miami is already 0-3.

Zak is still rolling somehow.

The Dolphins may now have to roll without one of their best offensive weapons.

Very Jacked.

JACKED: JUSTIN JEFFERSON — VIKINGS

Injury: Ankle

Jefferson exited Minnesota’s win over Tampa Bay in the first quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.

Any time one of the best receivers in football leaves in the first quarter, he goes directly on this list.

Further testing and practice status will tell us whether this is a short-term annoyance or a bigger problem.

JACKED: 49ERS INJURY REPORT

The 49ers are 3-0.

Which is excellent.

Their injury situation?

Less excellent.

MIKE EVANS

Injury: Ribs

Evans left Sunday’s win over Arizona after taking a hit in the second quarter.

The newest update from Kyle Shanahan is encouraging: the injury is not expected to be long-term, but Evans will continue to be evaluated this week.

TRENT WILLIAMS

Injury: Stinger/neck

This is the one 49ers fans immediately went to Google for.

So did we.

And this time there actually is some good news.

Kyle Shanahan said Williams is expected to be good to go by Thursday, although the team will continue evaluating him during the week.

That’s considerably better than waking up Monday with no idea how serious it was.

DRE GREENLAW

Injury: Quad contusion

Greenlaw suffered a quad contusion against Arizona.

The 49ers expect to manage his workload this week rather than dealing with a long-term absence.

NICK BOSA

Injury: Calf

Bosa will not play in Week 4.

The 49ers are already thin enough on the defensive line that the team is opening Mykel Williams’ practice window and trying to get veteran Matthew Judon up to speed as quickly as possible.

The Niners are 3-0.

Let’s keep as many of them available as possible.

JACKED: BREECE HALL — JETS

Injury: Thigh

Hall left the Jets’ loss to Detroit with a thigh injury and is being evaluated.

New York is already 0-3.

Their best running back getting hurt is not exactly the momentum shift they were looking for.

JACKED: BRIAN BURNS — GIANTS

Injury: Knee

Burns left the Giants’ win over Tennessee with a knee injury.

The Giants finally got themselves to 2-1.

Now they need to find out how serious this one is.

JACKED: LEO CHENAL — COMMANDERS

Injury: Neck

Chenal had to be carted off with a neck injury against Seattle.

The encouraging news is that he reportedly had feeling in his extremities.

This goes beyond football.

Hopefully he’s okay.

JACKED: DAMIEN LEWIS — PANTHERS

Injury: UCL elbow injury

Lewis is expected to miss multiple weeks with an elbow injury suffered against Cleveland.

The strange part?

He came back into the game and finished it.

Then found out he’d be missing time.

Football players are insane.

STILL JACKED: JAXSON DART — GIANTS

Dart remains sidelined after the knee injury he suffered against the Rams.

The Giants are moving forward with Jameis Winston while Dart recovers.

Not where New York expected to be three weeks into the season.

STILL JACKED: JAYDEN DANIELS — COMMANDERS

Daniels remains sidelined with the dislocated left elbow he suffered in Week 2.

Washington has continued with Marcus Mariota at quarterback while Daniels recovers.

UNJACKED: TYSON BAGENT — BEARS

Bagent has cleared concussion protocol and is available again.

Unfortunately for him, Case Keenum just went out and beat Philadelphia by 20 points.

Quarterback rooms are weird.

UNJACKED: MICHAEL PENIX JR. — FALCONS

Penix returned from last season’s knee injury and is officially back as Atlanta’s starting quarterback.

The Falcons then beat Green Bay 35-14.

That qualifies.

THE NFL NEEDS MORE BUBBLE WRAP

We’re heading into Week 4 with starting quarterbacks hurt, star receivers hurt, running backs hurt and linemen disappearing every Sunday.

The 49ers are 3-0.

Brock Purdy is healthy.

Please keep it that way.

We have enough material.

If it’s sports and it’s Jacked Up, we cover it.
