SO YOU’RE SAYING THERE’S A CHANCE

The Padres won again.
The Dodgers won again.
Arizona won again.
As of today, the Padres are 71-60, they’ve won three straight, and they’re nine games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.
And according to the playoff odds I’m looking at, the Padres now have a 0.1% chance of winning the NL West and a 68.2% chance of making the playoffs.
As you may know, last week JUS predicted the Padres would win the NL West.
We knew it was a long shot, but with all our years of baseball-watching experience, it seemed like the Padres had momentum and the Dodgers would collapse under the pressure.
That did not happen.
THE DODGERS TOOK THE JUS PREDICTION PERSONALLY
Since JUS predicted the Padres would win the NL West, the Dodgers have decided to win every game from now until the end of the season.
They’ve won six straight.
Respect to the Dodgers for stepping up.
I already didn’t like them, and apparently they didn’t like my prediction either.
But it’s not over.
0.1%.
In the immortal words of Lloyd Christmas:
“So you’re telling me there’s a chance.”
TATIS SAVED HIS HOME RUNS FOR THE STRETCH RUN
A lot of people were complaining about Fernando Tatis Jr. not hitting enough home runs for a lot of the season.
Apparently he was given a certain number of home runs he could hit this year and strategically saved them for the home stretch, where they would matter more.
That’s baseball IQ.
Tatis went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs yesterday as the Padres beat Minnesota 8-1 to complete the three-game sweep. He now has 12 home runs since the All-Star break, tied for the Major League lead over that span.
See?
Why waste them in May?
Jackson Merrill homered too, Walker Buehler gave San Diego six strong innings, and the Padres have now won 21 of their last 28 games.
The Padres are on fire.
Unfortunately, so are the Dodgers.
RESPECT TO ARIZONA TOO
Arizona isn’t going anywhere.
The Diamondbacks came back from a 3-0 deficit yesterday to beat Cincinnati 5-3, scoring four runs in the seventh inning.
They’re now 69-62, two games behind the Padres for the final NL Wild Card spot.
That’s a big difference from three games back at this point in the season. Every game matters now.
Arizona gets the Cubs next, and that’s a big series. The Cubs are one of the better teams in baseball and currently hold the first NL Wild Card spot.
I thought Arizona might eventually drop off.
They haven’t.
Respect.
The NL West is getting good.

NOW THE DODGERS GET ATLANTA
The Padres get Pittsburgh next.
Arizona gets the Cubs.
And the Dodgers head to Atlanta.
Atlanta is a really good baseball team.
I’m not asking for much.
Just sweep the Dodgers.
That’s it.
The Padres can handle their own business.

The Padres will win the NL West.
Nine games back.
