McGregor’s Knee Is Jacked Up, Padres Win Two in a Row, England Advances — Jacked Up Weekend Recap July 13

Let’s see what’s Jacked Up or UnJacked today.

🥊 UFC 329 — CONOR McGREGOR IS JACKED UP

We have to start here because nothing in sports this weekend was more Jacked Up than what happened at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Conor McGregor made his long-awaited UFC return against Max Holloway at UFC 329 — his first fight since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier back in 2021. The hype was real. The crowd was electric. The gate broke the all-time UFC record at $26.4 million.

And then McGregor threw a jumping kick to open the fight, landed awkwardly, and blew out his knee.

At 1:09 of round 1.

McGregor tried to fight through it — slipping to the canvas twice, trying to throw kicks on a leg that wouldn’t hold him. Referee Mike Beltran eventually waved it off when it became obvious McGregor couldn’t put weight on his right leg. Max Holloway wins by first-round TKO due to injury.

Doctors suspect a torn ACL. This is the opposite leg from the one he broke against Poirier in 2021.

Some people are saying he came into the fight with a jacked up knee, but it really looks like that flying kick is what did it. If I tried that kick and landed like that my knee cap would have probably exploded off my leg.

We are praying for him and hope he recovers and comes back again. We genuinely do. We know his newfound faith in Jesus Christ will bring him through this.

⚽ WORLD CUP — England and Argentina Advance to the Semifinals

England 2, Norway 1 — “Hey Jude!”

We told you we loved both these teams and it sucked that one of them had to lose. Lots of controversy in this one. A flop from an English defender negating a goal by Norway, and a ball hitting a camera wire giving England a breakaway — both decisions went England’s way and had a major effect on the game.

But Norway was its own worst enemy. Norway had a clean two-on-one breakaway where a simple pass to a wide open Erling Haaland was almost a 100% certain 2-0 Norway. Very Jacked Up play by the other Norway striker.

England’s Jude Bellingham scored his second goal of the game — the winner — when Norway’s goalkeeper blocked a shot but the rebound fell right back in front of the net. It’s reported that Harry Kane said “Hey Jude!” and Bellingham saw the ball and drove it home.

England now faces Argentina in the semifinals on Wednesday July 15 at 12pm PDT. England at 36.9% win probability, Argentina at 31.6%, draw at 31.5%. This is basically a coin flip — and it’s going to be incredible.

Argentina 3, Switzerland 1

Messi and Argentina handled Switzerland 3-1 on Saturday evening to advance to the semifinals. Argentina has looked like a team on a mission this entire tournament.

Coming Up This Week:

  • France vs Spain — Tuesday July 14, 12pm PDT (France favored 40.9%)
  • England vs Argentina — Wednesday July 15, 12pm PDT (England favored 36.9%)

⚾ MLB — PADRES WIN TWO IN A ROW OVER TORONTO

The San Diego Padres bounced back from dropping game 1 of the Toronto series and won two straight to take the series.

Saturday: Padres 8, Blue Jays 7

A thriller at Petco Park. The Padres came back to win 8-7 in a game that had Padres fans reaching for their heart medication again. Somehow the bullpen held on.

Sunday: Padres 5, Blue Jays 4

Back to back wins. The Padres took the series from Toronto 2-1 and are starting to find some life. They’re still 5.5 games out of the wild card but two wins in a row against a good Toronto team is the kind of momentum they need.

The All-Star break starts now — the Padres have time to rest that Jacked Up bullpen and hopefully get some arms healthy before the second half push.
