Football is back!
And not the rest of the world’s “football,” where they had their funny little tournament called the World Cup.
I’m talking about THEE football.
And it’s BACK.
The Patriots and Seahawks kicked things off last night in Seattle, and for a while it looked like New England was going to take the season opener.
The Patriots were up 10-0.
Seattle couldn’t get anything going.
Then Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold got hurt.
So obviously Seattle scored 13 straight points and won the game.
Because football.
Backup quarterback Drew Lock came in, Seattle’s defense went nuts, and Drake Maye threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter.
THREE.
The last one came in the end zone with the Patriots trying to win the game.
Seattle 13. New England 10.
Great game! Football is definitely back!
AND NOW THE NFL GOES TO AUSTRALIA
Today the 49ers play the Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
And here’s the thing.
Some people may say:
Why is the NFL playing in Melbourne?
They just like rugby or something over there.
Well, Australians might actually be the PERFECT people to introduce to American football.
Because like us, Australians looked at the sports the rest of the world was playing and apparently said:
Nah.
We’re making our own.
Australian rules football.
I’ve seen it.
I don’t understand it AT ALL.
But it’s great.
So I think Australians will watch American football with an open mind because they understand what it’s like to be a maverick in the world and just make up your own sport instead of going along with everybody else and playing soccer and cricket.
Welcome to American football, Australia.
You’re gonna love this.
The 49ers and Rams kick off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today, and this is the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia.

Meanwhile, the Padres beat Washington 9-2 yesterday.
Jackson Merrill had himself a DAY.
A two-run triple.
A two-run homer.
Four RBIs.
The Padres finished with 16 hits and completed the sweep of Washington.
Now things get fun.
The Padres head north to play…
MY GIANTS.
San Diego opens a three-game series Friday at Oracle Park, while Arizona gets Texas at home.
So yes.
I’m a Giants fan.
And yes.
I want somebody to beat the Dodgers.
And yes.
The Padres are fighting for their playoff lives.

Football is back.
The baseball playoff race is getting ridiculous.
