THE JACKED LIST — AUGUST 21, 2026
By Kurtis Rintala
The NL West was mostly quiet yesterday, but injuries don’t take days off.
As always, we’re starting in the NL West because that’s where the fun is, then we’ll hit the biggest injury news from around Major League Baseball and any major injury stories elsewhere in sports.
If you’re hurt, you’re JACKED.
If you’re coming back, you’re UNJACKED.
Let’s get into it.
WHO’S HURT — THE JACKED LIST

SAN DIEGO PADRES
JASON ADAM
Right shoulder strain.
Adam remains one of the important Padres arms we’re keeping an eye on as San Diego tries to chase down the Dodgers in the NL West.
A late-season bullpen injury is exactly the kind of thing you don’t want when every game matters.
JACKED.
RAMÓN LAUREANO
Right hip surgery.
Laureano remains out after undergoing surgery on his right hip.
The Padres need as much offensive depth as they can get right now, so having an experienced bat unavailable isn’t helping.
JACKED.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS
The Dodgers continue dealing with the kind of injury list that would normally make me feel bad for a team.
Normally.
They’re the Dodgers.
They’ll probably just find another All-Star somewhere.
EDWIN DÍAZ
Neck inflammation.
Díaz was placed on the 15-day injured list on August 18.
The Dodgers just added another high-leverage arm to their injury list.
JACKED.
DALTON RUSHING
Right UCL tear.
Rushing has been on the 10-day injured list since August 3. His ability to catch again this season is in question, though the Dodgers may try to bring him back as a hitter.
JACKED.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
CASEY SCHMITT
Left knee meniscus surgery.
Schmitt remains one of the Giants injuries we’re watching.
The Giants already have enough problems without losing useful pieces of the roster.
JACKED.
MATT GAGE
Left elbow strain.
Gage remains sidelined with the elbow issue.
Another Giants player unavailable.
Because apparently losing games wasn’t enough.
JACKED.
ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
KETEL MARTE
Left knee inflammation.
Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 20.
One of Arizona’s biggest bats is sidelined.
JACKED.
COLORADO ROCKIES
HUNTER GOODMAN
Left shoulder strain.
Goodman was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to August 15.
One of the Rockies’ most important bats is out.
JACKED.
AROUND MLB
MAX FRIED, YANKEES
Left elbow bone bruise.
Fried was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 14.
A major rotation injury for a contender.
JACKED.
JACOB WILSON, ATHLETICS
Left shoulder subluxation.
Wilson was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 21.
JACKED.
WHO’S COMING BACK — THE UNJACKED LIST

Now for the good news.
This is where we track important players who are returning, have been activated, are beginning meaningful rehab work or have received legitimately positive return-to-play news.
JASON ADAM, PADRES
Adam played catch from around 90 feet on August 17 and said he felt no pain. The Padres expect him back in September.
UNJACKED.
BROCK STEWART, DODGERS
The Dodgers activated Stewart from the 15-day injured list on August 19.
UNJACKED.
LOURDES GURRIEL JR., DIAMONDBACKS
Gurriel began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on August 18.
UNJACKED.
JUSTIN MARTINEZ, DIAMONDBACKS
Martinez began a rehab assignment with Single-A Visalia on August 4 as he works back from Tommy John surgery.
UNJACKED.
CARLOS RODÓN, YANKEES
The Yankees activated Rodón from the 15-day injured list on August 18.
UNJACKED.
VLADIMIR GUERRERO JR., BLUE JAYS
Guerrero began a rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin on August 20.
UNJACKED.
Getting players back for the stretch run?
VERY UNJACKED.
THE BOTTOM LINE
We’re getting late enough in the season that injuries matter even more.
The Padres are trying to make a run.
The Dodgers are trying to hold them off.
The Giants are…
Well, if you read today’s JUS Blog, you already know how I feel about the Giants.
Every missing starter, every bullpen arm and every player coming back can change what happens over the final stretch.
We’ll keep watching it.
JACKED = HURT.
UNJACKED = COMING BACK.
Simple.
If it’s sports and it’s Jacked Up, we cover it.
