NL WEST INJURY BOARD

PADRES

CASEY MIZE — RHP

Right ankle sprain.

Mize left his August 22 start after slipping on the dugout steps. X-rays were negative, and he played catch yesterday.

He’s hoping to make his next start on August 28.

So this could have been a lot worse.

JACKED, BUT MAYBE NOT FOR LONG.

NICK PIVETTA — RHP

Right elbow inflammation.

Here’s some actual progress.

Pivetta is scheduled to make a rehab start with Single-A Lake Elsinore today after throwing two innings in a bridge league game last week.

He’s still targeting a September return.

GETTING UNJACKED.

JASON ADAM — RHP

Right shoulder strain.

Adam remains on the IL, but his latest throwing update was positive. He played catch from about 90 feet without pain and is still targeting a September return.

GETTING UNJACKED.

JOE MUSGROVE — RHP

Tommy John surgery recovery.

This is getting interesting.

Musgrove is scheduled to make his fourth rehab start Thursday for Triple-A El Paso.

And here’s the important part:

He could rejoin the Padres rotation after that start.

The Padres getting Musgrove back for September would be a pretty big deal.

VERY UNJACKED.

DODGERS

Unfortunately, there’s some UnJacked news over here.

ANDY PAGES — OF

Fractured left hand.

Pages remains out and is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Still one of the bigger injuries in the NL West race.

VERY JACKED.

EDWIN DÍAZ — RHP

Neck inflammation.

Díaz remains on the IL, but the MRI showed no structural damage and he threw a bullpen session Friday.

JACKED, BUT IMPROVING.

WILL SMITH — C

Neck inflammation.

Smith is scheduled to begin a Triple-A rehab assignment today.

That’s a significant step toward getting him back.

GETTING UNJACKED.

TYLER GLASNOW — RHP

Lower back spasms.

Glasnow is scheduled to be activated from the IL and start tonight against Atlanta.

Because apparently the Dodgers needed Tyler Glasnow back too.

UNJACKED.

For them.

GIANTS

Yesterday we were waiting for the MRI on Willy Adames.

Now we have the answer.

WILLY ADAMES — SS

Moderate left elbow sprain.

Adames was officially placed on the 10-day IL yesterday after injuring the elbow sliding into home.

The good news is that we’re talking about a sprain rather than some of the more serious possibilities.

The bad news is he’s still on the IL.

VERY JACKED.

VICTOR BERICOTO — OF

Right knee bone bruise.

Bericoto also went on the 10-day IL yesterday after getting hurt in the same game as Adames.

Two players.

One game.

Two IL trips.

Giants.

JACKED.

JT BRUBAKER — RHP

Bruised ribs.

And because apparently two IL moves weren’t enough, Brubaker was placed on the 15-day IL yesterday too.

Three Giants went on the IL in one day.

JACKED.

MARCELO MAYER — SS

Left ulna bone stress reaction, plus a right foot bone bruise.

Mayer’s rehab was already complicated enough.

Then the foot injury halted his rehab assignment.

He was scheduled to meet with Giants doctors yesterday.

STILL JACKED.

DIAMONDBACKS

KETEL MARTE — 2B

Left knee inflammation.

Marte remains on the 10-day IL, with MLB listing the first week of September as his expected return.

Arizona is right in the Wild Card fight.

They need him back.

VERY JACKED.

MICHAEL SOROKA — RHP

Right shoulder inflammation.

Soroka was placed on the 15-day IL Sunday.

No return timetable yet.

JACKED.

ZAC GALLEN — RHP

Right elbow inflammation.

Now some good news for Arizona.

Gallen is scheduled to throw three innings in a camp game today, with his current return target during the September 7-9 series against Kansas City.

GETTING UNJACKED.

CORBIN BURNES — RHP

Tommy John surgery/teres major strain.

Burnes is also scheduled to pitch in a camp game today, throwing two innings and roughly 35 pitches as he works toward a possible September return.

GETTING UNJACKED.

ROCKIES

EZEQUIEL TOVAR — SS

Left wrist strain.

Tovar left last night’s game against Washington after landing awkwardly while making a diving attempt at shortstop.

There’s not enough information yet to say how serious this is.

So we’re not going to guess.

JACKED AND WAITING FOR AN UPDATE.

KYLE FREELAND — LHP

Cervical radiculopathy.

Freeland was placed on the 15-day IL yesterday after a bullpen session didn’t go well and his shoulder didn’t feel right.

No return date yet.

JACKED.

AROUND MLB

Only the significant stuff.

GIANCARLO STANTON — YANKEES

Both calves.

Stanton was already dealing with a right calf strain.

Now he’s strained the left calf too, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone says Stanton may miss the rest of the season.

Both calves?

VERY JACKED.

MICHAEL TOGLIA — REDS

Torn labrum.

Toglia is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery today.

Pretty straightforward.

VERY JACKED.

SPENCER STEER — REDS

Right wrist sprain.

Steer isn’t expected to resume swinging until at least October 1, making a return this season increasingly unlikely.

VERY JACKED.

AROUND SPORTS

Football season is almost here, so we’re keeping this to the major stuff.

TYLER BIADASZ — CHARGERS

Serious left knee injury.

The Chargers have placed their starting center on season-ending injured reserve after he suffered ACL damage during a joint practice with the 49ers.

He had just signed a three-year deal with Los Angeles this offseason.

Season over before Week 1.

EXTREMELY JACKED.

THE UNJACKED LIST

JOE MUSGROVE — PADRES

This is my No. 1 UnJacked watch today.

Fourth rehab start Thursday.

If that goes well, he could rejoin the Padres rotation afterward.

That’s about as close as we’ve been to actually seeing Musgrove back in a Padres game.

VERY UNJACKED.

TYLER GLASNOW — DODGERS

Scheduled to come off the IL and start tonight.

I don’t particularly like this development.

But this isn’t the Jacked List of Things I Want To Happen.

UNJACKED.

WILL SMITH — DODGERS

Scheduled to begin his Triple-A rehab assignment today.

GETTING UNJACKED.

ZAC GALLEN — DIAMONDBACKS

Three innings scheduled in a camp game today as he works his way back from right elbow inflammation.

GETTING UNJACKED.

CORBIN BURNES — DIAMONDBACKS

Scheduled for two innings and roughly 35 pitches in a camp game today.

Still a ways to go, but throwing in games is throwing in games.

GETTING UNJACKED.

GEORGE KITTLE — 49ERS

Kittle has been activated from the PUP list as he continues his comeback from a torn Achilles, giving him a chance to be ready for the 49ers’ September 10 opener.

VERY UNJACKED.
