THE JACKED LIST: AUGUST 20, 2026
Who’s hurt. Who’s out. Who’s coming back. And when.
We’re starting where we usually start, the NL West.
Then we’ll hit the biggest injuries around baseball and the sports world.
THE JACKED LIST

RAMÓN LAUREANO, PADRES
Right hip | 60-day IL
This one remains one of the worst injuries on the Padres list.
Laureano underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. MLB lists his possible return as October, but says 2027 is more likely.
For a Padres team that desperately needs offense right now, having Laureano unavailable certainly isn’t helping.
VERY JACKED UP.
JASON ADAM, PADRES
Right shoulder strain | 15-day IL
Adam is still working his way back from the shoulder strain that put him on the IL in July.
The good news is that imaging showed no major structural damage. MLB’s latest update had him progressing in his throwing program with a possible return in late August or early September.
That’s exactly the kind of bullpen reinforcement the Padres could use for the stretch run.
But until he’s back:
JACKED UP.
MATT CHAPMAN, GIANTS
Core muscle surgery | Out for the season
This one went from bad to worse.
Chapman underwent season-ending bilateral core muscle surgery on August 11. MLB lists his expected return as 2027.
The Giants have enough problems already.
Losing Chapman for the rest of the year is another big one.
VERY JACKED UP.
DANIEL SUSAC, GIANTS
Fractured left kneecap | IL
Susac is dealing with a left patella fracture and was expected to rest and rehab for four weeks before being reevaluated.
Another young Giants player losing valuable development time.
JACKED UP.
DALTON RUSHING, DODGERS
Right UCL tear | IL
Yes, the Dodgers get to join us.
Rushing has a slight tear in the UCL in his right elbow. His ability to catch again this season is in question, although Los Angeles has been hoping he could potentially return as a hitter.
We don’t root for injuries around here.
We root for the Dodgers to lose baseball games while completely healthy.
JACKED UP.
LOURDES GURRIEL JR., DIAMONDBACKS
Right adductor strain | IL
Gurriel remains on Arizona’s injured list with a strained right adductor. MLB’s latest injury report did not give him a firm return date.
No fake timetable from us.
When Arizona knows, we’ll know.
JACKED UP.
AROUND MLB
JACOB WILSON, ATHLETICS
Left shoulder | Expected to miss remainder of season
Here’s today’s major new baseball injury.
A’s shortstop Jacob Wilson is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a left shoulder injury and is headed back to Sacramento for further medical evaluation.
Wilson had already dealt with a dislocation of that same shoulder earlier this year.
A 24-year-old shortstop losing the rest of his season?
VERY JACKED UP.
HUNTER GREENE, REDS
Tommy John surgery | Out long term
Greene underwent his second Tommy John surgery on August 12, with MLB reporting an expected recovery period of 12 to 18 months.
Second Tommy John surgery.
Not much else needs to be said.
EXTREMELY JACKED UP.
AROUND SPORTS
Football season is coming, which means unfortunately the NFL is going to start earning itself plenty of space on this list.
And we’ve already got one.
JAYDEN HIGGINS, TEXANS
Torn ACL | Out for 2026
Texans receiver Jayden Higgins reportedly tore his ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders and will miss the 2026 season.
Football hasn’t even really started yet and we’ve already got season-ending injuries.
That’s the part of football nobody misses.
EXTREMELY JACKED UP.
AZZI FUDD, DALLAS WINGS
Right knee | Out for season
The No. 1 pick in this year’s WNBA Draft is done for the season.
Dallas announced that Fudd will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on her right knee after dealing with persistent soreness. She hasn’t played since August 5 and will begin rehab after the procedure.
A rookie season ending like that?
VERY JACKED UP.
THE UNJACKED LIST

Now for the stuff we actually like putting on this list.
JOE MUSGROVE, PADRES
Tommy John rehab | Getting closer
This continues to be the Padres injury story I’m watching.
Musgrove threw 70 pitches in his third rehab start for Triple-A El Paso on August 14 as he continues building toward his return from Tommy John surgery.
That’s real progress.
And if the Padres are actually going to make this NL West prediction of mine come true, getting Musgrove back for the stretch run could be a huge deal.
VERY UNJACKED.
NICK PIVETTA, PADRES
Right elbow inflammation | Working back
Pivetta is another potential Padres reinforcement.
He threw a bullpen session August 13 after beginning a rehab assignment earlier in the month. MLB’s latest update still lists his return as TBD, so we’re not going to pretend there’s a date when there isn’t one.
Throwing again?
Good.
No setback?
Even better.
UNJACKED WATCH.
JUSTIN MARTINEZ, DIAMONDBACKS
Tommy John rehab | Triple-A rehab
Arizona reliever Justin Martinez is making his way back from Tommy John surgery. He had progressed to Triple-A Reno by August 11 and threw a scoreless inning in his first appearance there.
Another pitcher getting close to completing the long road back from Tommy John.
UNJACKED.
MOST JACKED
Hunter Greene.
Second Tommy John surgery.
That’s brutal.
EXTREMELY JACKED UP.
MOST UNJACKED
Joe Musgrove.
Seventy pitches in Triple-A.
Getting stretched out.
Getting closer.
And potentially getting ready to join a Padres team that could desperately use another quality starter for the stretch run.
Come on, Joe.
VERY UNJACKED.
Who’s hurt.
Who’s out.
Who’s coming back.
And when.
That’s The Jacked List.
If it’s sports and it’s Jacked Up, we cover it.
